Genius Wefts are the most refined hair extension method available. Ultra-thin, incredibly flexible and cut to size without shedding — they sit so close to the scalp that they are completely imperceptible to both the eye and the touch.
At Platinum we install all Genius Wefts using our exclusive hand-sewn method. This means the weft is carefully sewn onto a custom track created from your natural hair — with no adhesives, no heat bonding and no chemical agents ever touching your hair.
Genius Wefts are particularly suited to fine or fragile hair where a lighter application is important — delivering beautiful length and volume without any unnecessary weight or tension.

Track Creation
A small, discreet track is created by braiding a section of your natural hair flat against the scalp — completely invisible when your hair is down.

Weft Placement
The Genius Weft is carefully positioned along the track — lying flush against the head for a completely flat, undetectable finish.

Hand Sewn
The weft is sewn onto the track by hand using fine thread. No heat, no glue, no adhesive — just precision and care. Each row takes approximately 25 minutes.

With the right care at home your extensions will look beautiful and last significantly longer. Mel will go through a personalised care routine with you at your installation appointment.

Brush daily from the ends up
Use a soft boar bristle or extension-safe brush. Always start from the ends and work upward — never drag from root to tip.

Use extension-safe products
Avoid products high in protein, sulphate or alcohol — these can dry out the extension hair and shorten its lifespan. Mel will recommend suitable products at your appointment.

Sleep in a loose plait
Tie your hair in a loose braid before bed to prevent tangling and matting overnight. A silk pillowcase will also help reduce friction.

Condition mid-lengths to ends
Concentrate conditioner and masks from mid-lengths to ends. Apply oil to the ends daily to keep the extension hair nourished and soft.

Always use heat protection
Apply a heat protectant before any blow drying or heat styling. Extension hair does not benefit from the natural oils your scalp produces — so protection is even more important.

Avoid washing for 48 hours after install
Allow the tracks to fully settle before washing. When you do wash, concentrate shampoo on the scalp and conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends.

How long does a Flat Volume Weft installation take?
Each row takes approximately 25 minutes to install by hand. A typical set of two to three rows takes around 50 to 75 minutes. Your exact timing will be confirmed at your free consultation.
How long do Genius Wefts last?
The weft hair itself can last 12 months or more with proper home care. Your natural hair will need a move-up appointment every six to eight weeks as it grows — at which point your wefts are repositioned back toward the scalp.
Do Genius Wefts damage your natural hair?
No — when installed and maintained correctly, our sewn-in Genius Wefts are completely damage free. Because we use no adhesives, no heat and no chemical bonding agents, your natural hair is never compromised throughout the wear or removal process.
How much do Genius Wefts cost in Tauranga?
Because every set is completely customised — different row counts, lengths, hair weights and colour matching — pricing varies significantly from client to client. Everything is discussed and confirmed at your free consultation before any commitment is made. There are no hidden costs.
What is the difference between Genius Wefts and Flat Volume Wefts?
Both are installed using our sewn-in method. Genius Wefts are ultra-thin and more flexible — ideal for very fine or fragile hair where maximum discretion is the priority. Flat Volume Wefts are slightly thicker and are our most popular option for clients wanting fullness and length. Mel will recommend the right option at your consultation.
Can I colour my Genius Wefts?
We colour-match your extensions as closely as possible at sourcing and can tone them at installation to blend seamlessly. We do not recommend bleaching extension hair as this significantly shortens its lifespan.

Platinum Hair Studio is located at 55 Sixth Ave, Tauranga. Free parking is available directly at the studio door. We are a boutique one-on-one studio — every appointment is completely private with no other clients present.
